Putting British Labour’s Anti-Semitism Claims Into Context

This piece by Palestine-based, UK journalist Jonathan Cook on the background and history of accusations of anti-semitism inside Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party – renewed this week following a BBC documentary made by John Ware – is well worth a read. It is all about Blairites, aided by elements in the media and British establishment, trying to remove Corbyn, he argues, using as their weapon the conflation of criticism of Israel’s behaviour towards the Palestinians with anti-semitism. 1. Noam Chomsky: ‘The charges of anti-Semitism against Corbyn are without merit, an underhanded contribution to the disgraceful efforts to fend off the threat that a political party might emerge that is led by an admirable and decent human being, a party that is actually committed to the interests and just demands of its popular constituency and the great majority of the population generally, while also authentically concerned with the rights of suffering and oppressed people throughout the world. Plainly an intolerable threat to order.’ (Noam Chomsky, email to Media Lens, September 9, 2018)

That just about says it all about this confected ‘crisis.’

So the evidence of more than 30 whistle blowers including current Labour Party staff and of 100 submissions to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission from the Jewish Labour Movement is confected. So the accounts given by the employees of the Labour Party Disputes of the interference by the Leaders Office in their work was manufactured by the “Balirites” and Israeli Embassy. The suicidal feelings of one of these whistleblowers and the rape threats made to John Mann’s daiughter (still in Labour); the abuse and intimidation of Louise Ellman, Ruth Smeeth, Margaret Hodge, Luciana Berger MPs and many other :Jewish :Labour members on social media is fiction. I could go on and on. The context of Labour’s Antisemitism crisis is the influx of members of the far left to support Corbyn’s leadership bid. whose obsessive hatred of Israel and Zionism previously confined to the lunatic fringe of the Left but, due to Corbyn’s friendship ansd association with them migrated to the mainstream. These people are racist scum; Corbynites can cry wolf all they like about Blairites, Israeli lobbies, and the MSM all they like but that it is they who have imported this bigotry into a once proud force for progress and social justice. I have joined the Jewish :Labour Movement as an act of solidarity with my Jewish party colleagues. I urge others who wish to rid our Party of this filth to do the same.

No Ed, Labour’s antisemitism travails are not about the conflation of concern for the Palestinian people and advocacy of an independent state for Palestinians which they so merit. The International Holocaust Remembrance Association (IHRA) definition of antisemitiism which has been accepted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party explicitly excludes legitimate criticism of Israeli state and support for a Palestinian state. Indeed there is no contradiction between supporting a Palestinian state in the context of a two-state solution.

The real scandal is they way in which a party formed to defend the rights and interests of workers has been imposing Non-Disclosure Agreements on wnistleblowing staff and have sought to traduce the motives of those staff wno appeared on Panorama in order protect the institution’s reputation. Harvey Weinstein, Philip Greene, the Catholic Church, Sinn Fein anybody?

  4. “……obsessive hatred of Israel and Zionism….” and that’s not conflation?
