  1. You should also mention that Peter King helped organise the visit of Bernadette Sands to NYC in 1998, when there was trouble about her visa.

  2. I’m reading VOICES and am interested in the history of the PUP, UVF and the involvement of the labour movement. Of particular interest is the UULA, Carsons involvement, the shipyards, Henderson and the Protestant working class . I’m puzzled and dismayed at the chronic failure of the PUP at the voting booth.
    There are so many similarities between the Nationalist and Protestant communities and the failure of a nonsectarian , working class party to emerge is also of concern particularly as the Protestants sink into ever greater poverty.
    Can you recommend any nonpartisan books on these topics?

    You should begin by reading a history of the Northern Ireland Labour Party and the reasons for its demise at the start of The Troubles in the early 1970s.
