How is it that when Donald Trump meets Vladimir Putin for the first time, as he did today, no reference is made in any US media report – at least that I can find – to the well-publicised claim that Putin has been blackmailing Trump for years with a lurid sex video made by Russian intelligence?
The claim, in the form of a report – originally commissioned by Trump’s Republican primary opponents – which was compiled by a former British MI6 agent turned private dick, caused a sensation when it was published last January, although much of the mainstream US media had been sitting on it for much longer.
You would think that such a scandalous claim would at least merit a mention somewhere in the media coverage today, when the alleged victim of the blackmail met the alleged perp. But no, it’s not there.
The fact that the report now virtually has the status of a non-thing in the American media is a telling little clue that Trump has become a little more untouchable, even normal, with time.
Notice also how Trump’s remarks in Poland about threats to ‘Western civilization’ were treated almost as normal by much of the media, despite their distinctive fascistic overtones.

Yes, but I wonder if his intimidation of the media is paying off, that slowly, almost imperceptibly, they are backing off and backing down?
