Would you be surprised if I told you that it is a number of journalists who have emerged as prime suspects, well known scribblers who dwell in the lower depths of my profession for whom lies, exaggerations, mistruths and invention have been their daily currency for almost as long as they have been working there.

Now, if former Church of Ireland primate Alan Harper and Methodist minister Gary Mason are satisfied that the threats were bogus, satisfied enough to put their names to a statement carrying a UDA denial, what then is the PSNI doing about tracking down the real source of the lie?
