I note that in The Irish Times report of the resignation of Sinn Fein Galway Senator, Trevor O Clochartaigh, apparently in connection with unheeded complaints he had made about internal bullying, Sinn Fein’s response is reported thus:

Perhaps that quote should really have read:

Shortly afterwards, Sinn Fein issued a statement contending the resignation was motivated by his knowledge that the party leadership had decreed that he would not win the party’s Galway West selection convention which is being held on Sunday.

A small but important difference.
