PSNI Liars

This is from Peter Sefton’s blog and arises from email correspondence between us today. This is an outrageous lie by the PSNI. No-one from the police in Northern Ireland has ever attempted to speak to me about the contents of my book ‘A Secret History of the IRA’. I will support Peter in whatever action he chooses to take against the PSNI over this matter.

PSNI “liars”

Readers may know that on more than one occasion I asked the police to investigate McGuinness’s part in the murder of my parents and the allegations made by Ed Moloney, in his book, ” A secret History of the IRA”, page 347.

Here is what ACC Harris [now DCC Harris] wrote to me on 11 August 2104:

“The author Ed Moloney has previously been spoken to and is unwilling to disclose the identity of his sources”.

Here is what Ed Moloney told me today, when I put Harris’s version to him:

“No-one from the RUC or PSNI has ever approached me about anything I wrote in ‘secret history’ and certainly not about your parents’ terrible deaths…if they are telling you that , they are lying to you and you have my permission to say so in whatever arena you choose”

I will be writing to the Chief Constable, seeking an explanation and possibly taking the matter further, depending on his answer. So much for ACC Kerr telling the PPS that my parents’  case had been thoroughly investigated.

Other inconsistencies are emerging in  information supplied by senior officers and this will be the subject of future blogs.

Where would we be without the opportunity to put these matters in the public domain , by blogging?

I say this because the Bar Council avidly reads my blogs!

  1. Ed I’m confused did you not fight a case to ensure protection of your sources? So are you saying that if the PSNI contact you about Mr Sefton’s parents that you will cooperate with them and reveal information? If so would that not be going against what you fought for in court or if you will not cooperate and will not reveal sources would you not be better telling Mr Sefton that up front rather than give false hope to an already grieving man.

    • Sorry if you are confused for the matter is very simple. The PSNI have given Peter Sefton the impression that they approached me and asked me to reveal a source I quoted in my book ‘a secret history of the ira’. They did no such thing. At worst they deliberately lied to and misled him; at best they are guilty of the verbal equivalent of sleight of hand. That was all I was saying. Understand now?

  2. In a word, no.
You haven’t even attempted to answer the question. If the PSNI contact you about the murder of Mr Sefton’s parents are you going to assist them with their investigation and reveal your sources? If not would you not be as well being upfront about that instead of giving the poor man false hope?

  3. I don’t mind at all you asking me a question and no I am not a relative. I have answered you now would you mind answering my question?

    • the answer is the same as before. the issue here is not what my response will be to the psni but that the police misled peter sefton into thinking they had approached me when they hadn’t. whichever way you look at it, that is lying. that is the only issue here which, incidentally, you have failed entirely to address. if and when the psni ever do approach me they will discover my attitude on this matter. if or when they do that and irrespective of what answer i give, i, and i am sure others will conclude that this amounts to an admission that they had in fact misled peter sefton and had therefore lied to him.
